Ladies 4ths v. Newent : Saturday 26th January

By Sarah Ryan

Beaten but not downhearted

The Ladies 4th team travelled to Newent this Saturday. The home team are clear leaders in their league so Cirencester knew they had a hard job on their hands, especially as they had lost 2 pairs of young legs during the week.
The game was evenly balanced at first but as Newent found their shape they began to take control. They had scored 2 goals, created by good team play, before Half Time.
It is becoming a pattern with the L4s - a strong 2nd half. Everyone upped their game and the front runners looked determined to score. Several short corners were earned but no goals were forthcoming. Unfortunately for Cirencester, Newent did manage to slot another 2 away.
The score did not reflect the game at this point and all credit to a gutsy team; Cirencester's heads did not go down. A fast break by the mid fielders, a well weighted pass into the "D" and Lucy Gale scored a great goal in the dying seconds of the game.
A 1-4 loss but not a disappointing effort.
The overall effort of the team was shown in the voting for Dame of the Game. No less than 7 ladies got nominations. The worthy winner was Natasha Inzani who played a great game in 2 unaccustomed positions. Sarah Ryan was delighted with her 2 Dame votes; not so delighted, however, with the 8 she received for Dippy!!! Sense of direction malfunction in the changing rooms!! It could happen to anyone!!

We forgot to mention last weeks Dame: Kate Randle for a determined and skilful performance.
Dippy was Ros Marsden who just edged out Sarah Ryan by 1 vote. She asked if our next league game was on a Saturday and then dug in deeper by trying to justify the question!!
