Both teams having a free previous Saturday were keen not to give anything away in what was now their first league outing of the season. The early play was cautious. The 3’s played with composure, probing down their right flank but finding goal scoring opportunities few and far between. And any chances were squandered or saved.
Whilst play was mostly in the 4’s half of the pitch, there was always the threat from the counter attack.
Half time and the defences had the upper hand with no goals conceded.
Second half took a similar pattern with 3’s squandering a series of short corners and were to rue their lack of potency as mid way through the half the 4’s broke away and Ben Saunders slotted the ball past Woody in goal.
With time running out, the 3’s upped the tempo and pushed hard for an equaliser, which came later on from a short corner, Mark Southgate making a series of saves only to be beaten by a follow up from Dave Hall. Despite further pressing the 3’s were unable to break through and honours ended even at 1-1.
