Cirencester U16 girls first game was against the well drilled and experienced Wotton under Edge team. With both manager and players in some instances meeting each other for the first time on the day, and with several players having to adjust position and formation, it was to be expected that it would take time for the team to gel. A goal for Wotton in each half, saw them run out as winners. Nevertheless, the girls played with great enthusiasm and spirit and competed in all areas, and can count themselves unlucky not to have scored at least one goal in an exciting end to end game.
There were some excellent performances all over the pitch, and special welcome to Amber Baldwin making her Cirencester debut, and Elizabeth Payne stepping in from the U14s, who was voted player of the game by the opposition. Alice Mundy, Emilia Powell, Tilly and the indefatigable Katie Boyle worked hard in midfield with Rosie Langston and Jessie Paton putting in sterling work in defence, and keeper Scarlet Page once again excellent.
There is no doubt that in a return fixture this result could be turned round. The aim is to add some more Sunday fixtures, though it is hoped that the majority of players will also get some games in the ladies matches on Saturdays. Training for 3s/4s and U16s continues on Thursdays and for October will be at the 6.45-8.15 session (including half term).
