The U10 Girls delivered an outstanding performance to win the West of England Finals on Sunday 29 March.
They played 6 pool matches, winning 5 and drawing 1, scoring 18 goals and conceding none!
A nail biting semi-final against Tiverton Foxes saw Cirencester concede their only goal. They equalised just in time, and then decisively won at penalty shuffles. Imogen and Mati each kept their nerve and slotted the ball around the Tiverton goalie. Ellie, our goalie, bravely ran at the first striker, who missed the goal. The second striker then managed 2 shots at goal, both blocked by Ellie, and the whistle blew – Cirencester had made it to the final!
The final had a delayed start whilst the other semi-final was battled out, with Old Bristolians finally winning after 11 penalty shuffles!
The final was against Old Bristolians and was a lovely open game. Despite this being their 8th match of the day, both teams held their shape, their work rate, and we saw the finest hockey of the tournament.
Undoubtedly our toughest match, there were more shots on goal than we'd faced all day. But all were saved. Cirencester continued to attack and finally, success! 2 solid goals, and then the final whistle blew! Cirencester had triumphed!!
It was a fantastic result, a fitting end to a long and crazy day. The girls played their socks off!
