From humble beginnings in the late 1970’s Cirencester Hockey Club is now beginning to flourish and make its mark in South West Hockey. In May of 2008
we successfully attained English Hockey ClubsFirst status. Clubs achieving accreditation are recognised nationally as providing a ‘Safe, effective and
child friendly’ club environment. We pride ourselves on our flourishing Junior
section.
In 2008 the Club was voted Gloucestershire HA Hockey Club of the Year and Active Gloucestershire Adult Sports Club of the Year 2008
a feat which could not have happened but for the dedicated group of volunteers from all ages throughout our club. And to top all that we were shortlisted
for the England Hockey Club of the Year 2008/09 but missed out to East Grinstead HC
Something about us....
Without any shadow of a doubt the most outstanding club playing achievement to date came in the 2003/4 season, when the Men’s 1st Team won through
to the HA Vase Final – not only was this the first national final to be reached by any Cirencester Team, but it marks only the second occasion when a South
West side has succeeded in reaching a National Hockey final, since Bristol’s HA Cup appearance in 1973. Cirencester were luckless losers to a strong
Eastbourne side, but their cup final appearance alone, was remarkable.
The Men’s section run four senior League sides, a Badgers team (combining youth and experience) and a popular midweek Veterans team. The Ladies Section
run two Saturday League teams and a Badgers team. We also run a mixed team during the Summer. The club’s growing youth set up is now firmly established,
with Cirencester competing well at all Junior levels. Recently, a number of the high calibre youth players that have been developed over the years have
been integrated into the senior sides, with a number being selected for County honours and National trials/training.
