CLUB NEWS AND UPDATES

Welcome to the online Home of Cirencester Hockey Club.

From humble beginnings in the late 1970’s Cirencester Hockey Club, barely a quarter of century old, is now beginning to flourish and make its mark in South West Hockey.

Without any shadow of a doubt the most outstanding club achievement to date came in the 2003/4 season, when the Men’s 1st Team won through to the HA Vase Final – not only was this the first national final to be reached by any Cirencester Team, but it marks only the second occasion when a South West side has succeeded in reaching a National Hockey final, since Bristol’s HA Cup appearance in 1973. Cirencester were luckless losers to a strong Eastbourne side, but their cup final appearance alone, was remarkable.

The Men’s section run four senior League sides, a Badgers team (combining youth and experienced) and a popular midweek Veterans team. The Ladies Section run two Saturday League teams and a Badgers team. The club’s growing youth set up is now firmly established, with Cirencester competing well at all Junior levels. Recently, a number of the high calibre youth players that have been developed over the years have been integrated into the senior sides, with a number being selected for County honours.

Our strong infrastructure is almost second to none in the County with two excellent playing facilities at the Royal Agricultural College and Deer Park school, both of which boast recently laid pitches. Growing on the impetus of its recent playing successes, Cirencester now employs a fully qualified coach for Training, which it is hoped will benefit all club members, improving general ball skills and tactical awareness.

Socially, Cirencester has always been well-known for its welcoming and friendly hospitality, which is currently enjoyed in the more than adequate surroundings of Mitsubishi’s HQ Building in the Town.
